«I Came to See My Daughter-in-Law at 10 AM – My Son Was at Work, the Kids Were Playing Alone… and She Was Still Asleep»

A Shocking Morning Visit This morning, I decided to visit my son’s house. He was at work, as usual, and I expected to find my daughter-in-law managing the household. Instead, I was met with an unexpected scene—my grandchildren playing by themselves while their mother was still in bed.

At first, I thought she might be unwell. But as I entered the house, I saw no signs of illness. The kitchen was a mess, toys were scattered everywhere, and the kids were running around without supervision. I gently knocked on the bedroom door and, after no response, peeked inside. She was sound asleep, oblivious to everything around her.

I was stunned. How could a mother sleep so late while her children were left to fend for themselves? I quietly took the kids into the kitchen and made them breakfast, trying to process the situation.

An hour later, she finally woke up, stretching lazily as if she had no responsibilities. She didn’t even seem embarrassed to find me there. Instead, she casually greeted me and started scrolling on her phone.

I couldn’t stay silent. “The kids have been alone all morning. Don’t you think they need their mother’s attention?” I asked.

Her response? A shrug. “They’re fine. They know how to entertain themselves.”

This moment made me question everything. Is this the new parenting standard? Where is the sense of responsibility? Is this what my son comes home to after a long day of work?

What do you think? Am I overreacting, or is this a real problem in modern families?
