When the taxi stopped in front of their house, her heart was beating faster than ever. She paid the driver, took her suitcase, and quietly walked into the yard. A light was on inside.
“He’s waiting for me,” she thought with a soft smile.
She took out her keys.
The door was open.
That was strange. Gabriel never left the house unlocked.
She stepped inside carefully.
Then she heard laughter.
A woman’s laughter.
Loud. Shameless. Unfamiliar.
Amelia froze.
“Gabriel, you’re so funny!” a voice called from the living room.
“For you, my love, I’d do anything,” he replied.
My love…
The words pierced her heart like a knife.
Her hands began to tremble. She moved forward slowly, as if her legs no longer obeyed her.
She looked into the living room.
And saw them.
Gabriel was sitting on the couch. On his lap was a young woman wearing Amelia’s robe. Her robe.

The woman was laughing, wrapping her arms around his neck. And Gabriel was stroking her back the same way he once did with Amelia.
In that moment, Amelia’s world collapsed.
She didn’t scream.
She didn’t cry.
She just stood there.
Like a statue.
“Amelia?…” Gabriel whispered when he saw her.
The woman turned around.
“Who is she?” she asked mockingly.
Amelia slowly placed her suitcase on the floor.
“I’m his wife,” she said quietly.
A heavy silence filled the room.
Gabriel jumped to his feet.
“Darling, I… you were supposed to come back tomorrow…”
“So if I had come tomorrow,” Amelia whispered, “you would have continued?”
He said nothing.
And that was his confession.
Tears streamed down Amelia’s face.
“Three years…” she sobbed. “Three years I trusted you. Prayed for us. Believed in our family…”
She covered her face.
At that moment, Olivia rushed in.
“Madam… I’m sorry… I wanted to tell you…” she cried.
“You knew?” Amelia asked softly.
Olivia lowered her head.
“Yes… he threatened me… I was afraid…”
Amelia smiled bitterly.
“Everyone was afraid. Except me. I was blind.”
She turned to the mistress.
“Get out of my house.”
“Soon it will be mine,” the woman replied arrogantly.
Amelia looked at Gabriel.
“Is that true?”
He remained silent.
And that was enough.
That night, Amelia didn’t sleep.
She sat on her bed, holding their wedding photo.
“How could I be so naive…” she whispered.
In the morning, she made a decision.
She would not be a victim.
She would be strong.
A week later, Gabriel received court papers.
Amelia had filed for divorce.
She hired the best lawyers.
It turned out that most of the property was in her name.
Houses. Accounts. Investments.
Everything.
Gabriel was devastated.
“Please, give me another chance…” he begged.
“I already did. And you destroyed it,” she replied calmly.
Three months later, it was over.
Bella disappeared.
So did the money.
Amelia began a new life.
She started a foundation to support betrayed women.
Olivia stayed by her side — no longer as a maid, but as a friend.
One evening, Amelia said to her:
“Thank you for staying with me.”
“You deserve happiness,” Olivia replied through tears.
Amelia smiled.
“Now I know that.”
Sometimes betrayal breaks your heart.
But sometimes, it also breaks your chains.
And sets you free.
